10:30am Learning for Clean Energy Innovation with Beth Byron: A pilot test program used to educate Connecticut teachers on how to incorporate specially designed alternative energy lessons into existing curriculum. The solar energy lessons align with the Connecticut core Science Curriculum Framework and are modeled after the curriculum embedded tasks for the Energy Transformations strand of the 9th grade standards.

How much of our world resources do you use? Have you ever asked, “What would happen if everyone lived like me?” Resources from www.ctenergyeducation.com (appropriate for grades 4 and up. Students must be able to add positive and negative numbers in sums of a thousand or more.)

1:00pm Workshop on the CT Clean Energy Communities Program with Beth Byron: The CT Clean Energy Communities program is a program to assist communities and their residents in the purchase and support of clean energy. Learn how your community can commit themselves to clean energy and work towards achieving cleaner air, healthier communities and energy independence. During the workshop we will discuss the progress made in your city or town and what you can do to help your community support clean energy.

1:30pm Compact Fluorescents: Learning about Energy Efficiency, Air Quality, and Economics
Tying together energy, economics and environmental issues is enlightening! Learn how you can save money, and the planet, one bulb at a time. Resources from www.ctenergyeducation.com (appropriate for grades 4/5 and up. Students must be able to multiply, read thermometers, and read time.)

Connecticut Clean Energy Fund with The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund develops, invests in and promotes clean sustainable energy sources for the benefit of Connecticut ratepayers. Its vision is to ensure that Connecticut will be a leader in attaining a sustainable balance of energy production, economic growth, and environmental impact.

Laurel Kohl is the Education Specialist for the Institute of Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University. She is the administrator of www.ctenergyeducation.com, a free educational resource that supports fundamentals of energy, energy efficiency and climate change lessons for middle school – high school students. She also administers the Cool It Challenge! www.coolitchallenge.org , a contest for Connecticut students to create climate change solutions.

The Growing Green Co-op is a member owned cooperative dedicated to promoting all aspects of sustainable living in CT. This July they will kick off their six week Summer Youth Activist Camp geared for kids ages 5 & up.
